Protect Personal Safety, 31st October 2011 - 5 out of 5 Stars

"Probably the best dvd on the subject I've ever owned, much needed information on a subject so important to people in a time of rising criminal activity espesialy where violence to the person is on the increase, people have been confused with conflicting information from the media and espesially the authorities , but this dvd with put every law abiding person on the right track, well done Mark."

Steven Timperley, Trident, 31st October 2011 - 5 out of 5 Stars

"As expected a first rate DVD 'packed' with sound information and under-pinning references to the Law & self-defence. If you are truly serious about adding to your 'knowledge & understanding' of this subject then I strongly suggest you buy this DVD without hesitation! Steven Timperley - President of the UK Martial Arts Alliance (UKMAA)."

Simon Philips, 30th October 2011 - 5 out of 5 Stars

"This is truly an awesome dvd, it is another quality product from Mark Dawes and the team at NFPS. This dvd is a must purchase item for anyone who is teaching or thinking about teaching "Self Defence". The legally correct information on this dvd from Mark and Professor Gary Slapper, Professor of Law and Head of the Law Faculty for the Open University will ensure that you can give your students the very best advice to ensure they can protect themselves both on the street and if needed in the court room."

Mrs S. L. Graham, 30th October 2011 - 5 out of 5 Stars

"This DVD is well publicised with a full detailed account of the information and source from which the information has been derived. It is a valuable resource for anyone wishing to understand more about the law relating to self defence and where, as members of the public, we stand when it comes to protecting ourselves, our family and our property. There have been many stories in the press over the past several years and this DVD helps us to understand our rights more clearly. The delivery of the information is not bogged down with legal terminology but very clear to understand and easy to relate too. As a trainer in this field I would recommend this product not only to members of the public wishing to understand their rights but also to any person/company delivering physical skills and conflict management strategies in both a professional and personal context. In my opinion a very worthwhile investment and another excellent product provided by Mark Dawes and NFPS Ltd."

"What do you think you are legally allowed to do if you were confronted with a masked and armed intruder in your home?"

This was a situation that one homeowner found himself in recently. 39 year old Vincent Cooke was confronted on his doorstep by two armed thugs who forced their way in and started ransacking his home. When his wife and 12 year old son returned he shouted at them to run for safety and then grappled with the intruders, one of whom died from a stab wound. However, after an investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service Mr. Cooke was found to have used reasonable force and is therefore not facing prosecution. You can see the BBC report on this by clicking here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-15211250

And in recent months there have been other cases of honest law abiding citizens killing intruders and being found innocent of any wrongdoing and in this dvd we will be providing you with the correct legal information on what exactly what the law allows you to do from qualified legal experts, including a Professor of Law who writes for the Times Newspaper.

"Sadly, the UK is becoming an ever-increasingly violent place"

According to the British Crime Survey 1 in 5 women will experience sexual assault in their lifetime.

Almost 1 in 20 women were stalked last year and 1 in 5 women will experience stalking in their lifetime.

In 2007 and analysis of figures from the European Commission showed a 77% increase in murders, robberies, assaults and sexual offences in the UK.

In fact, the total number of violent offences recorded compared to population is higher than any other Country in Europe as well as America, Canada, Australia and South Africa. It means that there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the UK, making it the most violent place in Europe.

"And workplace violence is increasing too!"

Sadly today in the UK there is an ever increasing risk of violence, as we have seen from recent news reports. In fact, 1 in 5 of all workers who have been signed off after work related assaults works in social care, according to the Health & Safety Executives figures. These figures equate to three Social Care Workers being assaulted each day.

According to the British Crime Survey there were a reported 310,000 assaults on British workers in the UK. Yet this could just be the "tip of the iceberg" because, according to one Health and Safety Expert the "HSE only collects data on incidents that result in staff who have been absent for 3 days or more".

"Yet did you know that you can't be dismissed or disciplined by your employer for defending yourself at work?"

Your rights to self defence cannot be taken away by a contract of employment, and this is important for both the employee and the employer to know. Failing to understand this can leave employes suffering from work related stress and the employer open to an industrial tribunal.

At the extreme end an employer could also be held liable under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 as well as the new key amendment to the Work-Related Deaths Protocol (WRDP) which came into effect on the 1st October if a death results in a breach of the duty of care owed to it's staff under health and safety legislation.

This new Dvd is packed with information to help you understand the law in relation Self Defence and in doing so understand exactly 'What Self Defence is', and has been designed to keep you safe by letting you know what your legal rights to self defence are.

It will also help destroy the myths and misconceptions that abound in relation to Self Defence.

The SELF DEFENCE DVD

"So, how far are you willing to go to protect the ones you love and the people you employ?"

Times are changing and I believe that people like you are now more aware of your rights then ever before. In fact, I believe that you are hungry to know what your rights are.

For example, the case of Tony Martin back in 1999 first catapulted homeowners' rights to defend their own property into the public consciousness when he shot and killed a 16-year-old burglar in the back as he tried to escape from his remote farmhouse in Norfolk. The farmer was so frustrated at repeated raids on his property that he had taken to lying in wait with a pump-action shotgun.

As a result Martin became a cause celebre for campaigners when he was given a life sentence for the murder and jailed for 10 years. His conviction was later downgraded to manslaughter and his sentence reduced to three years.

However, as a result of the Tony Martin case, many people started doubting their right to self defence. Many people still believe that the law works against them.

"Did you know that it is Easier to Get into Oxford and Cambridge University Then it is to Go To Jail for Defending Yourself?"

Yes that is true!, It is statistically easier to get into Oxford and Cambridge University then it is to go to prison for defending yourself, and there are many cases to support this fact which you will hear about when you purchase this DVD.

For example, the BBC News reported on the 22 July 2011 that the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute 59 year old Peter Flanagan who fatally stabbed 27 year old John Bennell, a burglar at his home in Salford.

Then there was the case of Cecil Coley (as reported in the BBC News on the 7th September 2011) who will face no criminal charges after a suspected robber was stabbed to death at his shop in Greater Manchester, prosecutors have said.

So let me introduce myself.

My name is Mark Dawes and for the last 23 years of my life I have dedicated myself to teaching and coaching self defence and physical intervention. I have worked as an Expert Witness, have personally authored and created books on the subject of Reasonable Force, provided evidence for a House of Lords and House of Commons Joint Committee on Human Rights report, interviewed on BBC and Sky News and on radio.

I am someone who is passionate about self defence and what our rights are in keeping ourselves and our family safe.

I first became interested in the law in relation to self-defence when I was running self-defence courses in conjunction with the local Police in West London.

What I found was that although many people could learn 'How' to defend themselves, they always wanted to know 'When' they could defend themselves and 'What' they were legally allowed to do.

What I also found was that many people actually believed that if they actually used force they would be more likely to be seen as the aggressor, so they were hindered by a sense of learned helplessness due to a limitation in their belief system.

And in some cases this limitation was compounded and re-enforced by instructions given to them by well meaning, but ill-informed, people in positions of influence. Organisations for example, would tell staff that if they defended themselves - but - God forbid - hurt their assailant - they would be disciplined - and possibly even sacked - and some organisations still give this advice today which is actually contrary to what our laws provide.

As a result I decided to look more closely at what the law actually provided. Why, because I wanted to be more than just a Self-Defence Instructor. I wanted to be someone who could genuinely help people by backing up my training with a sound legal understanding of what the law actually provides. It was a daunting journey which, up to now, has taken me over 23 years of his life and has also cost me literally thousands of pounds.

In addition to that I have read literally hundreds of books, listened to hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of audio, attended hundreds of seminars and training courses and engaged the services of some of the UK's - if not the World's - leading legal minds.

However, it has been a worthwhile journey and I am now delighted to be able to share it with you for a mere fraction of the cost of what it has taken me to get to this point.

"Legal input from one of the UK's Leading Professors of Law"

The dvd also includes an Expert Lawyer's insight into the law in relation to Self Defence with Professor Gary Slapper, Professor of Law and Head of the Law Faculty for the Open University who regularly writes and comments for the Times Newspaper. Professor Slapper is also a member of the Corporate Manslaughter Team at 36 Bedford Row, the Chambers of Frances Oldham QC. Gary has also written and co-written and published many law books and academic journal papers.

His particular research into corporate crime has been pioneering. In a forward to his book Blood in the Bank, the philosopher and writer Noam Chomsky describes the work as 'pathbreaking'.

The SELF DEFENCE DVD

"This DVD is packed with information that you should know about. In fact - you MUST know what is on this DVD"

In this DVD you will learn about what the law actually provides, destroying the myths and misconceptions that abound, enabling you to challenge incorrect and wrong advice.

The real risk of you actually being found guilty in law of acting in Self-Defence, which I am sure will really surprise you!
The FACT that you can use lethal force, even killing your assailant, and still be found innocent of any wrongdoing.

What the Law says about your right to use a Weapon in Self-Defence.

Whether you have to leave before you can act in Self-Defence.

The legal position on the use of the 'Pre-Emptive' Strike including examples of when it would be lawful to do so and not do so.
What laws Govern the right to use force in Self-Defence.

How you are Likely to be Judged by the Courts.

The Right to Life as provided by the Human Rights Act 1998

Case law examples to illustrate how the law works, including the cases of: Edwin Pitkin, Tony Martin, Munir Hussain, David Summers, Thomas O'Connnor, that help illustrate how the law actually works in reality.
Your Common Law right to Self-Defence and what you are allowed to do if you are being attacked by someone who cannot legally commit a crime - for example; someone who is under the age of criminal intent or someone who has a mental health problem. This is particularly relevant for those employers who employ staff who work, for example, with children and young people and people with a mental heath issues who pose a risk of violence to the employee.
The liabilities and risks for employers who Misinterpret the Law and in so doing place people at risk by giving their staff incorrect advice and poor training that could leave them very liable under various Acts of Parliament.

I am also sure however, that there are many people out there who don't want you to know what's on this dvd, and this is because it is in their self interest for you to remain ignorant of these facts. Why?, because if you don't know your rights you have no rights and if you have no rights you can be exploited.

"All the answers you require are in this DVD. Don't become a victim of ignorance. Become a Survivor"
